The Smart Sling Development Team

Our Story

Smart Sling® Technology is the culmination of 30 years of lifting sling manufacturing and rigging product innovation. Beginning in 1988 with the first high performance synthetic roundsling and over 50 patents, Slingmax Rigging Solutions has remained at the forefront of safety innovation in the overhead lifting industry.

In 2016, a team was assembled with a common goal - an unrelenting drive to improve safety in an industry that had grown stagnant. This team included over 30 individuals, from six companies with expertise in rigging, manufacturing, health monitoring technologies, software development, and hardware engineering. As American manufacturers, we believe in American manufacturing and quality, so we partnered with suppliers in the USA. After four years of development, and one year of field testing Smart Sling is ready to redefine what it means to be confident in your lift.

Reliability

Slingmax introduced the Check-Fast Inspection System in 2008. This proved to be the only reliable, repeatable, and objective sling overload indication device available. Over the past decade, the Check-Fast system has been installed in over 500,000 slings and is trusted worldwide. Thousands of tests were performed on the Check-Fast inspection system, including break testing in:

  • Bridle configurations
  • Eye and eye type slings
  • Choke and double wrap choke hitches
  • Basket and double wrap basket hitches
  • Full range of sling capacities
  • Sling lengths varying from 4ft to 100ft

The foundation of Smart-Sling has been built on this testing and experience. In addition to the above tests, this new technology required further testing to verify:

  • Extensive cycle testing (simulates repeated use)
  • Water Resistance
  • Wireless range and reliability
  • Electronic component durability
  • Real world performance
  • Power consumption requirements

Monitor what matters

Smart Sling was created with your safety in mind. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are over 50 crane-related fatalities in the US every year and approximately 1,500 lost time accidents. Over half of these casualties are caused by falling objects, or “sudden rigging failure”. Your slings can be the deciding factor between success or disaster. Smart Sling is the first and only system that constantly monitors the internal conditions of your slings for severe overload.

Overload indication devices have been in use for over a decade, however this process requires hands on inspection to determine if the rigging has been overloaded. Smart Sling wirelessly connects lifting professionals to their equipment to give them peace of mind. For the first time ever, you can monitor the condition of your slings in real time from anywhere in the world.

Smart Sling is currently performing heavy lifts in the following industries:
